The Social Concerns Committee has a purpose similar to the Mission Committee but the focus is closer to home. This committee expresses our Christian care and concern for our Rochester neighbors. We partner with many community support organizations. This includes hands-on volunteering, fund-raising and donations distributed through budget outlays, direct fund appeals, and seasonal drives for clothes and other necessities. In 2011, celebrating FPC’s 150th anniversary, the committee sponsored and helped build a six-bedroom house in Rochester with Habitat for Humanity. In 2014 the committee created a series of public, open-forum discussions called Forum@First. This event brings issues, concerns and experts in the Rochester community together for public discussion. Past topics have ranged from drug courts to immigration to mental health care facilities, to low-income housing needs.
