A Statement on Faith, Human Dignity, and Immigration

As a Christian congregation, we affirm that every human being is created in the image of God and possesses inherent dignity, regardless of nationality or legal status.

Guided by Scripture and the teachings of Jesus Christ—who himself was a refugee—we are compelled to speak when public policies harm families, endanger the vulnerable, or deny due process and compassion to our neighbors.

We recognize the legitimate role of governments in creating and enforcing laws. At the same time, our faith teaches us that no law is above God’s command to love the stranger, protect the vulnerable, and seek justice.

Therefore, we say no to immigration practices that:

  • Dehumanize migrants and asylum seekers

  • Separate families without moral necessity

  • Criminalize humanitarian aid and compassion

  • Rely on fear, misinformation, or collective blame

We say yes to:

  • Policies rooted in human dignity, mercy, and due process

  • Nonviolent, lawful resistance to injustice

  • The right of conscience for individuals and institutions

  • Accompaniment, welcome, and care for immigrant families

We commit ourselves to prayer, education, advocacy, and concrete acts of compassion. We will not remain silent when our neighbors are harmed, nor will we allow fear to override faith.

In saying “no” to injustice, we seek to say “yes” to the Gospel.

“You shall love the stranger as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.”
—Leviticus 19:34
