Jubilate Deo Handbell Ensemble
(9th grade through Adults)

Jubilate Deo rehearses on Thursdays from 6:00-7:00PM, and on Sundays we are scheduled to ring before or between services.

This ensemble rings a variety of music from abstract and hymn based music for handbells to hymn and anthem accompaniments, and liturgical music in many styles.

While a foundation of musical literacy is extremely helpful, handbell technique can be learned and we will gladly teach anyone who would like to join us - experienced or not.

Each midweek rehearsal will seek to cover music 5-7 weeks in advance, on average, and will include time for devotion.

Children’s Ringing

Opportunities to learn to ring and build the necessary technique for satisfying ringing experiences will be incorporated into children’s vocal ensemble rehearsals. This can be expanded upon when we have enough participants and interest, with the necessary commitment of time.

Director of Music Emeritus, Lee Afdahl, is a well-known composer of handbell music as well as sought-after clinician and advocate in the handbell world. There is a strong tradition of ringing at First Presbyterian Church, and the congregation delights in supporting the work of our ringers and worship offerings made once a month or more!
