Mission & Witness

The Mission and Witness Team consists of the Mission Committee and the Social Concerns Committee. Together these committees work to reflect God’s love for all people by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ through mission and social concern outreach in both the local and world community.

Mission
The Mission Committee oversees our concern for the cause of Christ worldwide. Through the approval of financial support and direct hands on witness and service activities, this committee is responsible for all our mission work outside the immediate area of Rochester Minnesota.

In Action
We contribute money through our regular budget, special offerings, and targeted gifts. Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska and our sister church in Somogyjád, Hungary are on-going projects. Through our mission budget we support our denomination’s Unified Mission. Members have donated time giving medical attention to the people in Mombin Crochu, Haiti. Volunteers in Mission from our congregation have also served in Venezuela, Hungary, Malawi, Texas, India, and at Sheldon Jackson College. We are involved with the Medical Benevolence Foundation.  For information on them, look at http://www.mbfoundation.org

Social Concerns
The Social Concerns Committee has a description similar to the Mission Committee but with the focus being closer to home. In addition to concerns in the immediate Rochester area, this committee also would have concern for issues of social justice.

Meetings
We met on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Sheldon Jackson Lounge, and welcome visitors or those who wish to join in our work.

In Action
We cooperate with about 15 local charities who are trying to be good neighbors and do hands-on volunteering, raise money and accept donations for local causes, distribute monies from our budget and appeal at Mission moments for funds and articles. Our special goal now in conjunction with the Capital Drive is to provide at least one house and hopefully two for Habitat for Humanity.
